CHORLEY were denied a likely 15 points as thunderstorms cut short Netherfield’s struggling reply to see Saturday’s match abandoned.

Opener David Fisher impressed with a knock of 82 as Chorley reached 187-5 off their 50 allotted overs at Windsor Park.

Netherfield’s reply started disastrously losing three wickets in just six overs before storms in the 13th ensured there was no further play.

The result meant Netherfield picked up four points instead of the one they would have likely received if they were bowled out and the game surpassed 20 overs.

Field won the toss and elected to bowl but that decision backfired as their bowlers failed to make a breakthrough until the 37th over.

Fisher, alongside skipper Andrew Houldsworth, built a steady partnership of 119 before the latter was caught behind by stand-in wicket keeper John Huck off the bowling of Bradley Earl.

Fisher pushed the total to 158 before he was dismissed by Mark Clarkson, who then took the wicket of professional Mohammed Jamal in the 48th - but the damage was already done.

Earl took two more wickets in the following over as both Will Moulton and Gaurav Dhar fell for ducks.

Netherfield’s stuttering innings had reached just 16 before heavy rain put paid to any chances of a result.

Openers Ben Phillips (4) and Marc Brown (2) fell to Chris Harty and Keiran McCullagh respectively before Sri Lankan professional Saliya Saman was dismissed for 0 two balls later.

Tom Williamson and Joe Atkinson were at the crease as the rain began to fall to give both sides four points a piece.

Netherfield sit in eighth place with two games remaining.
