WINDERMERE Golf Club’s rising star Adam Chapman has won the inaugural Vardon Grip Trophy, finishing with rounds of 66 and 68, to win by five shots.

The 36-hole open men’s amateur scratch competition was held at Harrogate Golf Club and is a qualifying event for the 2014 Yorkshire Order of Merit.

Chapman beat off 47 other players to lift the historic trophy, which was presented to him by club chairman, John Robinson and club captain, John Lewis.

The Vardon Grip Trophy takes its name from Harry Vardon, one of golf’s greatest players. The Vardon grip - the most universally used – bears his name.

The winning of the Vardon Grip Trophy is yet another triumph for former Lakes School pupil, Chapman, who is currently playing to form, winning the Mens Pannal Rose Bowl in June and also winning the Amateurs’ competition recently at Carus Green Golf Club.

“I knew I was playing solidly at Harrogate and was extremely pleased to win this trophy, particularly as this is the first time it’s been played.” said Chapman.

“We are delighted with Adam’s continuing success and his winning the Vardon Grip Trophy.” said Windermere Golf Club’s Chairman, Cliff Heath. "We all think of Adam as an ambassador for Windermere Golf Club and we will do everything we can to support him in his career."
