KENDAL'S caretaker manager Michael Stringfellow expressed his delight after picking up four points from his first two games in charge.

The Mintcakes secured their first three points of the season in a convincing 4-1 win over Radcliffe Borough at the weekend before an entertaining 2-2 draw away at Burscough on Tuesday night.

And the former Morecambe midfielder was pleased with his side's work on the road.

"In the first half I thought defensively we dealt with them comfortably and I was quite happy to come in at half time 0-0," said Stringfellow.

The Mintcakes came out firing in the second half as an early Danny Forbes strike gave them the lead but Stringfellow, who last week admitted he wanted the job permanently, was less than impressed with how quickly his team conceded after scoring.

"We started the second half well and got the goal - it was the dream start for us," he said.

"But then we conceded twice and we've got to be better than that mentally - it can't happen again."

Despite going 2-1 down in the 49th minute, just four minutes after taking the lead, Kendal dug deep to muster a spirited fight back.

Forbes scored his second of the night with 30 minutes to go and Kendal had a number of chances to snatch all three points.

Stringfellow said: "We showed good character to come back. We created well and scored two and, to be honest, could have scored a few more and won the game."

As well as scoring two, Forbes, Kendal's star man, delivered some dangerous crosses from the left wing.

"I told him to keep his place in the side with his performance tonight and I think he's done that," admitted Stringfellow.
