WINDERMERE Golf Club’s captain Mike Todd has completed a gruelling golf challenge to raise much needed funds for St John’s Hospice in Lancaster.

The 43-year-old teamed up with three other Windermere members; Andy Rollins, John Winterbarker and John’s son, Sam Winterbarker, to attempt five rounds of golf in five countries as quickly as possible.

The task started with an early morning drive to Powfoot Golf Club in Scotland to complete the first round, followed by a second round at Bangor St Deiniol in Wales in the afternoon, prior to catching a late night ferry to play at County Louth in Southern Ireland the following morning and Malone golf club in Northern Ireland that afternoon.

A final round was played at Windermere the following day.

The energetic foursome have already raised in the region of £2,750 and are hoping this will increase to £3,000.

“It was great fun doing the charity golf challenge and most importantly we are delighted to have so far raised a considerable sum for St John’s Hospice.” said Todd. “We knew the first day was going to be tough, but the second was even harder, particularly the round at County Louth, which is a long course. By the time we had completed our final round at Windermere, we were all ready for a long rest! I’d like to thank everyone for their support, Irish Ferries for kindly allowing us free passage and the golf clubs who also permitted us half price green fees.”

Todd will be hosting a ‘Captain’s Dinner’ at Windermere Golf Club on October 17 from 7pm.

Former Great Britain Rugby League player Barry McDermott will be guest speaker.
