LAKELAND Trails and Coniston Mountain Rescue celebrated their ten year association with the Coniston Trail event in fine style on Saturday.

Runners from all over the UK, along with international visitors from seven nations were treated to fabulous autumnal conditions, with four seasons in one day - sunshine, hailstones, rain, and rainbows throughout the day.

Staveley athlete Sharon Taylor, Helm Hill Runners, dominated the 15km Coniston Trail Race winning in 69.31 and 13th place overall.

Runner up was International triathlete Victoria Graves, City of York AC in 71.58, with Scotland’s Elaine Omand, Dundee Road Runners, in 3rd place in 72.44.

Juliette Minter, Olney Runners, was first V40 in 4th place in 72.48, with Louise Knight, Medwan Maidstone in 5th in 73.18

James Kraft, Scarborough AC, went one better than last year, winning the men’s 15km race in fine style in 57.00 from GB International, Adam Peers, Liverpool Harriers, in 57.55 and these two were a long way ahead of third placed Lewis Banton, Clowne Road Runners, in 62.19.

Fourth place went to local Eden Runners, Jonny Cox in 62.32 with Paul Graham, Derwent AC in 5th place in 63.10.

In the morning’s 10km Coniston Trail Run, Chris Barnes, Blackburn Road Runners, won the men’s race in 45.04, runner up was Kendal’s Simeon Musgreave in 45.57 and Tony Wardle, South Cheshire Harriers made the podium in 3rd place in 47.27

Ulverston’s Helen Woodley won the ladies 10km in 51.58, with Suzanne Toppin, Penrith runner up in 53.42 and Louise Gordon, South Cheshire Harriers, in 3rd place in 54.40.
