TWO Kendal girls delivered strokes of genius to win medals at a North West regional swimming event.

12-year-old hot prospect Ruby Frankland was at her imperial best as she destroyed the competition at the Preston Swimming Club's Spectacular Gala in Darwen, Lancashire, last weekend.

She picked up four gold medals for freestyle, the individual medley and butterfly.

Elsewhere she went home with two more silvers and a bronze - not a bad return from the 13 events she entered.

Amy Reay, 15, entered six events, winning medals in five of them.

Her best effort came in the 100 metre backstroke where she picked up gold.

Amy only missed out on gold in several other races by a fraction of a second.

She demonstrated her diversity in the pool by getting on the podium in butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and individual medley events.

Her results meant that she not only smashed her personal best but she has also qualified for three Cumbria Age Group events next year.

Ruby Frankland was also at her imperial best.

She destroyed the competition in the 200 metre freestyle to take gold.

She followed this up with two more gold medals, one in butterfly and one in 100 metre freestyle.
