A WINDERMERE football club has installed a new equipment shed, funded by generous local donations, after being targeted by vandals twice in seven months.
In June the Gazette reported that Heathwaite Junior Football Club’s shed on their Rayrigg Meadow pitch had been destroyed, just months after the previous one was also vandalised.
Following the story the club received a £400 donation from Windermere & Bowness Community Choir, which was matched by Kendal turbine manufacturers Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon.
The result – a steel shelter with two padlocks and a concrete base – was installed this week, and committee member Colin Barnes said: “We’re hoping it’s sturdy enough to deter vandals.”
