EXCITEMENT hung over Windermere as two of their hockey teams thrashed their opposition.

In the North West Hockey League Division One, the men's first team hammered Wrexham 6-0.

Mere took their time to settle into the game but eventually put the bottom of the league side to the sword.

Man of the match Will Dolman inspired the Lakes side to a comfortable win with two goals coming from Natt Smith, two from the ever dangerous Sam Whitehead, one from leading scorer Richie Jackson and another courtesy of Matt Conway.

Windermere tried to make it more but were thwarted by an outstanding performance by the Wrexham goalkeeper.

This victory keeps Mere second on goal difference to Wilmslow.

Elsewhere, Windermere's second team succumbed to a strong Lancaster and Morecambe outfit.

Mere dominated much of the match demonstrating their best passing hockey of the season so far but they failed to convert that superiority into goals.

This left them vulnerable and sure enough the home team scored a solitary goal late in the second half to break Windermere's spirit.

Midfielder Luke Blezard was man of the match.

In a local derby, Windermere's under 18's trounced Kirkby Lonsdale's under 18's by five goals to one.

The classy Windermere side passed and moved at speed and only a great display by Kirkby goalkeeper Josh Dawson could keep the score down.

Richie Jackson scored a hat-trick from short corners and Matty Clark and Tom Simpson added to Windermere's tally while Harry Tallantire scored Kirkby's only goal.
