NEVILLE Pinkney fought back from two games down to secure the Mike McElroy trophy for Kendal Squash Club's over 50s for the first time ever.

The trophy is in memory of Mike McElroy, a keen squash player who owned Kirkstone Kitchens and sadly passed away five years ago.

It sees club members over 50 pitted against the club's under 50s and has been running since Mr McElroy's death.

The overs have never beaten the unders however this year history was made when a keen and fit group of over 50's gave all their sweat, tears and as much tenacity as they could muster to win the competition.

Fourteen players took part with Ian Mitchell captaining the overs and Steve Faulkner captain for the unders.

It all came down to the final match when Pinkney played Mike Stock in a hard fought match. Stock put up a ferocious fight and went ahead by two games before Pinkney courageously fought back.

"It just goes to show that over 50 is definitely not over the hill," said Pinkney.
