ELLIOT Bousfield scored the winning penalty to send Milnthorpe Corinthians into the final four of the Association Of Northern Counties Senior Cup after victory over Vauxhall Motors.

Representing the Westmorland FA, Milnthorpe opened the scoring through Ryan Close early on.

Peter Baxendale breezed past defender Byrne down the left flank, cut the ball back for Jake Routledge who saw his shot blocked but Close was on hand to tuck the ball away beyond keeper Richie to give Westmorland a deserved lead.

Against the run of play three minutes later Alex Clare broke down the middle catching the Westmorland defence wide open. He slipped the ball down the right for Mark Noakes to drive the ball past the advancing Adam White to level the scores.

The first half was fiercely contested with Adam Garnett and Routledge both coming close for Westmorland while White made a smart save with his legs once again from Noakes, who proved to be Cheshire’s main danger man.

The second half started as the first with Baxendale and Tom Routledge linking well only to see Scott Singleton’s effort smartly saved by Richie.

Atkinson rattled the bar for Cheshire in the 75th minute as the game edged towards a nervy penalty shoot-out.

Garnett and Matthew Knipe scored Milnthorpe's opening two penalties with Cheshire hitting back both times. The contest was turned on its head when Routledge found the back of the net before a superb save from White diving to his left to give Westmorland the advantage.

Close coolly slotted the ball to the keeper's right for the fourth with Cheshire firing home to make it 4-3.

But Bousfield stepped up to score the fifth and earn his side a home tie in the semi-final against Beverly Town representing East Riding.
