Scarborough Athletic 2 - 1 Kendal Town

KENDAL Town tasted defeat for the fourth time on the bounce as Scarborough Athletic fought back from a goal down to secure the three points on a chilly afternoon on the East coast.

The Mintcakes made the long trip to the seaside resort but came away disappointed despite top scorer Jordan Connerton opening the scoring early on.

The Queensgate outfit replied soon after through Ryan Blott before Dean Lisles put the home side ahead after the half-time whistle.

Boro keeper Joe Cracknell then saw red for deliberate handball but Kendal could not muster an equaliser as their dismal run of defeats continue.

Boss Michael Stringfellow made three changes to the side that was heavily defeated by Farsley last weekend.

Danny MacDonald was back between the sticks in place of Stuart Dixon, former Barrow striker Nick Rogan came in for Jeff King while George Mason, who has played a starring role in Kendal CDS so far this year, made a surprise start in the heart of the midfield in place of skipper Warren Beattie.

And it was Mason who sparked Kendal into life after just eight minutes.

The youngster picked up on a loose ball in the middle of the park and drove at a retreating Boro defence before playing a perfectly-timed ball to the feet of hitman Connerton, who calmly rolled the ball under Cracknell.

Boro responded well and restored parity ten minutes later when Blott met a Gary Bradshaw corner at the near post and headed past MacDonald.

The home side could have gone ahead moments later when a Bradshaw corner fell to the feet of Lisles but he fired over.

MacDonald was forced into two saves from Blott while Jimmy Ghaichem smashed high and wide.

Alex Peterson then rose highest but headed just past the post on the whistle.

Kendal's defenders were once again exposed from crosses when Boro took the lead after 56 minutes.

Dean Lisles rose highest at the near post from a left-wing cross and flicked through the flailing arms of MacDonald.

But the game then turned on its head when Cracknell raced from his goal to intercept a long ball, but defender Ben Middleton arrived first and headed it goalwards.

Cracknell managed to get his hand on the ball but the officials adjudged it was outside the box and the stopper was given his marching orders.

Youngster Rory Skelton came on to replace him and his first job was to watch full-back Kieran Walmsley’s free-kick smash into the side-netting.

Boro soon began to retreat into their own box, pinned back by a Kendal side who usually always finish strongly.

After a string of half opportunities, Connerton had a glorious chance to draw Kendal level.

He ghosted onto a perfect ball from the right but headed well over.
