Kendal 0-4 Burscough

BURSCOUGH'S Liam Caddick hit a quickfire hat-trick to inflict a fifth league defeat on the spin on Kendal Town in a miserable afternoon for the Mintcakes at the Lancaster and Morecambe College Stadium.

The striker opened the scoring after just 26 seconds to stun the home crowd before adding his second following a swift counter-attack and completing a stunning six-minute treble by poking home past Kendal goalkeeper Danny MacDonald.

Kendal failed to find any attacking momentum and the points were sealed in the opening minute of the second-half when Will Jones took full advantage of a hashed MacDonald clearance to slot home.

Boss Michael Stringfellow was forced into one change from the team that were narrowly beaten by Spennymoor Town last Tuesday night as influential midfielder Tommy Watson, who broke him arm in the loss, was replaced in the starting eleven by Kieran Walmsley.

The afternoon started drastically for Kendal when, straight from the kick-off, Matty Devine found space on the right and lofted a high ball into the box which MacDonald failed to deal with. The ball fell kindly at the feet of Caddick who calmly rifled in a half-volley.

And it got even worse two minutes later when Burscough broke with numbers from a Kendal corner. Caddick, one-on-one with Warren Beattie, dipped inside the Kendal skipper and curled sublimely into the far corner to double the away side's lead.

Three minutes later and the game was all but over when, after a good passing move, Joe Cammozi slipped in Caddick who rounded off his hat-trick with ease.

Jordan Connerton then dragged wide a 20 yard effort before Ricky Mercer almost turned a header into his own goal.

Stringfellow introduced Isaac Kusaloka into the fold to add some much needed pace but it was Burscough who looked the most likely to add to their tally.

MacDonald saved brilliantly from a Wade Joyce shot but the keeper did not cover himself in glory after the restart.

Under no pressure, he skewed a clearance straight at the feet of Jones who advanced on goal and finished with aplomb.

The Mintcakes exerted some late pressure of their own and Kusaloka, George Mason and Zach Clark all had half-chances but Burscough saw out the game with ease to take away all three points.
