IT WAS men against boys at the Lancaster and Morecambe Stadium as Kendal ran riot over lowly Prescot Cables.

The final score was 6-0 but the Mintcakes could have hit double figures in a game they dominated from start to finish.

Reece Fishwick opened Kendal's account on 16 minutes.

Great link-up play between the new strike partnership of Jordan Connerton and Gregg Johnstone pulled Prescot's defence one way before releasing Fishwick down the other flank.

He slotted in well from a tight angle to make it 1-0 and wheeled away towards the cheering spectators.

It proved to be a day to forget for Prescot Cables' keeper Tom Quinn who was at fault for several goals.

On 19 minutes Zach Clark broke down the left and found himself one on one with the defender.

Like all good wingers he beat his man and fired the ball straight at Quinn who flapped at it weakly on its way into the roof of the net.

On the half hour mark Kendal were 3-0 up.

Gregg Johnstone scored on his home debut when he headed home after a free kick into the box was not collected by the hapless Quinn.

Just 45 seconds into the second half, Jordan Connerton made it four.

Quinn was in no man's land after a ball over the top and Connerton duly chipped him.

Five minutes later Connerton scored a goal so similar spectators could have been forgiven for thinking it was a replay.

Kendal proceeded to dominate possession, playing a brand of football more at home in Catalonia then Cumbria.

New signing and central midfielder Aaron Helliwell controlled the game, pulling the strings from a deep lying role.

Like the conductor of an orchestra he dictated the tempo - keeping possession relentlessly while not being afraid to play a 40 yard cross-field ball when the opportunity presented itself.

After 75 minutes, manager Michael Stringfellow tinkered and brought on another new signing, Dave Swarbrick, who scored the best goal of the day.

On 82 minutes Swarbrick volleyed the ball in from 25 yards out - this time Quinn had no chance.

The game ended 6-0 and the future looks bright for Kendal as they produced a performance that will live long in the memory of the faithful fans.
