Warrington Town 3 - 0 Kendal Town

KENDAL Town suffered back-to-back defeats as Warrington moved to within six points of the Evo-Stik First Division North play-offs with a comprehensive victory on Saturday.

Robbie Booth, Stephen Tames and Nathan Burke found the net as Shaun Reid’s team climbed to ninth in the standings while Kendal's season continues to ebb away with a mid-table finish the best outcome possible.

The Mintcakes had the first sniff of an opening on 17 minutes when leading scorer Jordan Connerton peeled off the shoulder of a defender to find space in the box - but his shot was comfortably stopped by Karl Wills in the Warrington goal.

The hosts, who have now won nine home games, did not got a foothold in the game until midway through the first half when James McCarten headed over the bar from a corner.

Some neat link-up play in midfield earned Town some field position. Tames laid the ball off for Robbie Booth, who perhaps should have done better given the time he had, firing a shot well over.

But he made no mistake minutes later though, when the same pair linked up to give Town the lead.

Tames showed strength and pace to get free down the right with some great wing play, getting goal side of the defender and then pulling back for Booth.

The midfielder picked his spot and side-footed the ball past Cameron to break the deadlock.

That gave the hosts a cushion they never really looked like relinquishing.

At the other end, James McCarten and Tom Hardwick dealt well with the threat of Connerton.

Leading up to half time Connerton curled a free kick wide before seeing a shot well blocked by McCarten in front of goal.

Kendal's biggest chance came shortly before the hour but Wills made a save with his feet to deny Connerton after the ball fell to him from a deflected shot.

Town started to push for a second goal to seal the win.

David Mannix, a product of Liverpool's Academy, drilled a left footed shot through a ruck of bodies and wide, before Hardwick diverted a Louis Corrigan effort over the bar from close range.

The decisive second goal eventually came on 79 minutes. Man of the match Tames fought hard to win a loose ball, showed strength to get behind a defender, and then finished well from a tight angle.

That eased any tension for the home side and the introduction of Gerard Kinsella prompted a third goal.

The former Everton academy man lofted a fine through ball for Burke, who dinked the ball first time over the onrushing Cameron from outside the box.
