FOLLOWING a full year of training and competeing at numerous venues around the north, the cream of Cumbria’s swimmers gathered at Kendal’s N.C.L. Centre for the first round of the Countie’s Age Group and Couny Championships.

Kendal was well represented with a 25-strong squad of entrants who over the two day meet were to come up with some excellent results.

Leading the way was nine-year-old Elliot Woodburn who was outstanding winning all four of his Age Groups.

His finest performance came in the 200 Individual Medley where he demonstrated his skills at all four strokes combined into the one event for a comfortable win.

He then went on to win the Boys 50m and 200m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle.

Two other winners, Hannah Edwards and Emily Reay, showed power and technique at sprinting to storm home in 13yrs 50m Breaststroke and 14yrs 50m Backstroke respectively.

Edwards got further success at 200m Freestyle (second) and 400m Freestyle (third) and 50m Backstroke (third).

Reay too got minor awards for 50m Butterfly (second) and 100m Backstroke (third).

The results of the young up and coming swimmers bodes well for the future of the Club with some remarkable performances.

Emma Foster, nine, fought her way to the 50m Breaststroke final and placed her self in a position to bid for success and stormed into a terrific second place. She then completed a powerful 200m Freestyle to take another second place followed by a third place for her 100m individual Medley.

Next came the 10-year-olds with Lucy Sargeant contesting two finals, taking runners-up spot for 50m Breaststroke and third place for 50m Butterfly.
