KENDAL Town boss Michael Stringfellow believes a share of the spoils with Lancaster was a fair reflection of the match.
The Mintcakes battled to a goalless draw on Easter Monday in a game of few clear cut chances.
"It was a tough 90 minutes," admitted Stringfellow, who played a full 90 minutes himself. "It was quite a physical game. They played well first half and we struggled to deal with them. Defensively we kept our shape and kept ourselves in it and the second half we had a couple of chances where we perhaps could have won the game so overall I think a draw was probably a fair result but I would have liked us to play a bit more football.
"It is something to build off. Lancaster have been on a good run recently so I am really happy with the result.
"Sometimes this season we have won 4-3, 3-2 so it's just getting that balance right. We are in a bit of a transition trying to be a bit more solid but we also need to carry on creating opportunities."
The result followed a disappointing 3-1 defeat away at Brighouse Town on Saturday and Stringfellow was keen for his side to show a response from that.
"I was massively disappointed and felt they had let us down a bit," he said. "This was a chance to bounce back. That is the best thing about football; when you've got these games so close together you can recover a bit of pride.
"Against Brighouse we just were not solid enough. I didn't expect to play for 90 minutes but just by me being in there I can talk to the young lads. It gives us a bit more discipline and allows us to compete and maybe knick a goal late on. If I have to play I will play. I don't want to particularly because I want to give the young lads a chance but if it helps them out that is what I will do."
Kendal travel to relegation-threatened New Mills this weekend with the Derbyshire outfit six points from safety.
Stringfellow said: "Playing bottom sides at this time of the season are the toughest games because they are fighting for their lives so it's going to be a real tough. It's a test for my players because we have struggled away from home all season."
