KENDAL County were given a real scare by bottom of the table Barrow Wanderers before easing to a 3-1 win in their West Lancashire League Division Two clash.

Barrow, with just three wins all season, shocked their hosts when they took the lead in the 15th minute courtesy of a Jasper Carey penalty.

It was a lead they held until five minutes before the break until Jordan Knowles levelled for Kendal.

In the second half, Kendal's class began to tell and Brody Moffat put them ahead on the 58th minute before Jason Tucker sealed the game on 74 minutes.

Kendal are now fourth in the table.

However after the highs of a league win came the low of a cup semi final defeat as County were knocked out of the Challenge Cup in a penalty shoot-out at Ladybridge on Monday.

Kendal had twice led in normal time thanks to goals from Danny Ferguson and Jason Tucker only for Jordan Coop and Benson Johnson to reply on each occasion.

After the match finished 2-2 after normal time, it was Ladybridge who held their nerve to win a sudden death shoot-out 6-5.

Ladybridge will now play Haslingden St Mary's who beat Walney Island 7-1 in their semi final.

There was also penalty shoot-out agony for Division One side Askam United who lost 5-3 on spot kicks against Fulwood Amateurs in the semi final of the President's Cup after the match also finished 2-2 at the final whistle.

In the Premier Division on Saturday, Crooklands Casuals drew 2-2 with Blackpool Wren Rovers who led at the break thanks to Rick Seear's 20th minute strike.

Gareth Smith levelled in the 49th minute before a second Seear goal but Rovers back in the lead. However, Joe Callister's 79th minute penalty earned Crooklands a draw.

In Division One, bottom of the table Ambleside United slipped to another defeat, losing 4-2 at home to Burscough Richmond.

Lee Berry (25), Jordan Lord (46), Lee McNab (50) put Burscough 3-0 up before Jake Walker pulled one back in the 55th minute.

But there was to be no comeback as Scott Taylor made it 4-1 on the hour mark before Steve Sewell grabbed a second for Ambleside.

And GSK Ulverston lost 3-1 at Turton with Ryan Hyland scoring a last minute consolation goal after Dillon Winstanley had scored a hat-trick for the hosts.
