KENDAL Cavaliers made a great start to their 2015 Twenty-20 campaign as they defeated Penrith Panthers by 34 runs in their opening North One group encounter.

Kendal batting first closed on 128-5 off 20 with South African professional Eldred Hawkens blasting his way to an unbeaten 55 that included two fours and four sixes.

Ryan Shepherd made a handy 22 with Paul Dodds opening with 21.

In reply, Penrith were restricted to 92-9, captain Chris Miller returning figures of 5-21 while Saeed Bariwala and Marcus Hill took two wickets each.

Netherfield begin their Twenty20 campaign on Sunday when they travel to Barrow.
