KENDAL Town picked up their first win of pre-season with a comfortable win over Gretna FC at The Lancaster and Morecambe College Stadium on Saturday.

Kendal named a strong squad for the friendly, with George Mason and Ricky Mercer making their first appearances of the season, while new recruit Sam Bailey played the full 90 minutes.

The Mintcakes started the game on the front foot and dominated Gretna from the go.

They almost scored within the first six minutes when Mason delivered a fine ball to Jordan Connerton, who forced a save by Gretna 'keeper Vinnie Parker.

Kendal continued to press as centre-half Rob Williams made Parker work again as his header was parried over the bar.

The home side finally made the breakthrough on 15 minutes when the prolific Connerton slotted home before the hitman added another from the spot when Ben Thomas was felled in the box.

Danny Wilkins made it three after good work from Mason before he profited again when Thomas rounded the keeper and squared to the waiting attacker.

Kendal continued to dominate the half however Gretna pulled one back on half time when Dean Rea fired a blistering free kick in from the edge of the penalty box.

The second half was disjointed as Kendal made substitutions and Gretna battled back to create some half chances.

But it was Kendal who scored late on when Bailey fired in his own stunning free-kick to bring the curtain down on an easy win.
