SECOND half goals from Anthony Wright and a speculative strike by Matty Tymon condemned Kendal to defeat as they lost 2-0 to Workington on Tuesday night, reports Richard Edmondson.

Town manager Michael Stringfellow played most of his starting 11 for the game with the exception of Ric Whiteside and Rob Henry.

The first half was relatively quiet, however Workington, who ply their trade in the league above Kendal did create half an opening on 11 minutes when Scott Allison's curling shot went over the left hand post.

As the half wore on Kendal grew into the game playing some good attacking football as Zach Clark fired at the keeper on 30 minutes after cutting inside the penalty box.

Tymon then saw his effort cleared in the penalty box after dispossessing George Mason, with the Town defence standing firm.

With half-time looming Kendal came on strong as Clark saw his effort parried by the keeper for a corner.

Jordan Connerton then had a half chance forcing Mitchell to save with his legs.

In the second half Workington started the better of the two sides and were ahead on 50 minutes when Tymon's blocked effort by the Kendal keeper fell to Wright who followed up from close range.

Workington then doubled their lead on 60 minutes when Tymon unleashed a 30 yard volley past the Kendal keeper.

The visitors could have scored a few more with Tymon and Rory McCortney going close, however Kendal pressed for a goal of their own first through Craig Carney and Sam Bailey.

The best chance for Kendal came from Joe Noblet who saw his speculative effort from 30 yards go over the bar.

The result was Kendal's fourth defeat of pre-season after suffering a 4-1 defeat away at Dunston UTS, near Newcastle, on Saturday.

Carney gave Kendal a slender half-time lead but four second half goals secured a win for the Northern League Division One outfit.

Kendal travel to Whitby on Saturday for their final pre-season fixture before starting the Evo-Stik First Division North campaign with a trip to Farsley Celtic.
