THE ‘great and the good’ turned out at Windermere Golf Club to support captain Clive Matthews, who hosted the club’s annual ‘Captain’s Day’. Despite the typical Lake District weather, the event comprised a full competing field, with more than 135 enthusiastic competitors, including captain’s guests, taking to the course to enjoy the annual occasion.

And, the captain made sure to make a fun weekend out of the event, with a party for 46 of the players held on the Saturday night, prior to the competition.

The overall winner was Mike Dixon, who recorded a net score of 62, to win by one shot from Andy Rollins.

Will MacAllistar had the best gross score.

The day also raised more than £300 for Clive’s charity of choice, the Air Ambulance Helipads, with Steve Edmondson of the Brown Horse Inn at Winster kindly donating two barrels of beer for the tent at the halfway house, with the proceeds going to Clive’s charity.

"We all had an absolutely fantastic weekend," said Clive. "The event was so well attended and luckily, the weather didn't dampen anyone's spirits.

"I would like to offer hearty congratulations to winner Mike Dixon and thank everyone who attended for their support."
