WESTMORLAND Football League Division One champions Appleby begin their defence of the title at Kendal County Reserves tomorrow (Friday) night.

The Eden side secured the league by just two points last year - winning 18 out of their 22 matches - and will be hoping to start in similar form at Parkside Road.

Havera Park is the setting as Sedbergh Wanderers get their campaign underway against Carvetti United, who have decided to continue in the Westmorland League after initially deciding to fold at the end of last season.

All the other teams kick off on Saturday as Kendal United, who have lost skipper Rob Warwick to West Lancashire league outfit Kendal County, travel to Penrith Reserves.

Newly-promoted Ibis begin next Tuesday when they host Appleby at Jubilee Playing Fields.

Ambleside United will make their Westmorland League debut next Saturday (August 22) with an away game at Unisun Athletic.

In Division Two, Endmoor KGR, now managed by former player Graham Sill, who has stepped down from refereeing duties for the season to take on the role, open on Saturday with a home game against Wetheriggs United Reserves.

Kendal United Reserves begin life in Division Two this Saturday 15th August when they host Langwathby United at Bulmire Stripes.

Shap also begin at home to Dent.

In Division Three, Burneside Reserves open against Ibis Reserves at Hollins Lane while Dent Reserves host Penrith Academy and Endmoor KGR Reserves travel to Eden Thistle.
