ULVERSTON Otters continued their massive success this year when five of the club’s top swimmers were invited to take part in the A.S.A.s Summer National Swimming Championships held in the Ponds Ford pool at Sheffield.

Alix Knagg, Nicola Capstick, Rebecca Fell, Tom Robinson and Joshua Turner, all having reached the necessary qualifying times at various Galas earlier in the year, pulled out all the stops to distinguish themselves with glory against the best in the land.

They all had fabulous swims and great results, setting personal bests and records.

Knagg, with her usual power and controlled aggression, qualified for the 50m Backstroke final to take sixth place in 30.88.

She then took on the 100m Backstroke and took the Bronze medal in the final with a storming 1.04.57 swim - a new county junior women's record.

Capstick also gave a dazzling performance with an amazing 31.07 personal best to knock 0.77 seconds off her previous and qualified third for the final - where she finished seventh overall as all ten swimmers posted times within two seconds of each other.

Fell then got into the mix with a superb 50m Breaststroke swim - clocking 33.53 and winning Bronze on the way to set a new women's 50m long course Breaststroke record which had stood since 1993.

Robinson’s best effort came from his 200m Butterfly where he powered his way to a place in the final with a new personal record of 2:16.67.

Another supreme effort saw him take seventh place with a time of 2:16.93.

Turner made his contribution in the 50m Backstroke with a solid swim which brought him a well earned best time of 30.76.
