DEFENDING champions Appleby were held to a draw in the opening fixture of their Westmorland Football League Division One campaign.

A strong Kendal County Reserve side shocked the Eden outfit when they went in front on two minutes through a Tom Ladds strike, however despite County's pressure and missed chances, Appleby came on strong in the second half and equalised through a Jordan Crawford effort.

On Saturday Kendal United began with a comfortable 3-0 win at Penrith's Reserves as Bailey Carlos, Greg Pearce and Brandon Croskell Robinson all got on the scoresheet.

A Richard Bannister hat-trick and a Tom Atkinson brace helped Keswick to a resounding 5-0 win opening day win over Lunesdale United while Wetheriggs United battled to a 3-1 home win over Windermere.

In Division Two a Matthew Wilson brace and Ryan Carradus goal wasn’t enough as Endmoor KGR fell to a 4-3 home defeat to Wetherigg Utd Reserves.

Goals from Mark Barnes Davies and Dan Bescoby ensured Kendal United Reserves began life in Division Two with a win over Langwathby United while Pirelli and Ambleside United Reserves battled out a 3-3 draw and Dent were big winners following a 4-0 win at Shap. Braithwaite also saw off Staveley United 3-1.

New side AFC Carlisle opened their Division Three campaign with a 5-2 home win over Ullswater United.

Scott O'Callaghan and Joe Stansfield were on target for Burneside Reserves in their 2-2 draw with Ibis Reserves - whose goals came from Joe Carradus.

Endmoor KGR’s Reserves side conceded four goals in the last 15 minutes as they lost at Eden Thistle while Dents Reserves won 3-2 against Penrith Academy.

Lunesdale United Reserves were also big winners as they won 5-1 at Penrith Saints.
