KENT Valley Road Club are the first winners of a new season-long inter-club hilly cycling time trials series.

They were presented with the Tunstall Memorial Trophy after clinching the title in Sunday's Circuit of Wild Boar Fell 28-miler from Sedbergh, finishing the eight-event series with 2,388 points ahead of Lancaster CC on 1,332 and the Lakes RC on 1,293.

Barrow Central Wheelers were fourth and the Lune RCC fifth.

The series - in memory of late Kent Valley Road Club secretary Derek Tunstall - encourages local clubs to turn out as many riders as possible for team points rather than just their elite performers.

It has included four pure hill climbs, two rollercoaster out-and-back rides and two hilly circuits.

Individually, Kent Valley's Peter Thomas broke the Wild Boar course record on Sunday with a time of 1-11-50 while clubmate Amanda Howard achieved a new women's course best of 1-30-26.
