NETHERFIELD ran out comfortable winners as they saw off Kendal by 86 runs in the Bank Holiday Monday Derby clash at Shap Road.

Kendal won the toss and elected to put Netherfield in to bat on what was a relatively slow wicket.

Netherfield openers Ben Barrow and Rick Potter made a steady start putting on a 42 run partnership for the first wicket.

Both Barrow and Potter had to dig in, until Potter picked out Shane Hyland in the 14th over off the bowling of Chris Miller with the Aussie amateur going for 30.

Marc Brown came to the crease and he and Barrow kept the runs ticking over until Miller then saw off Brown for 33 before bowling Barrow for 36 with Netherfield now on 107-3.

Netherfield raced along to 134 with Dieter Klein and Brad Earl putting on 26 and 24 respectively.

However Klein, who was dropped twice, fell as his drive for six was caught by Darren Nightingale as Miller made it four wickets for the afternoon.

Earl and Tom Williamson helped Netherfield past 150 before Eldred Hawken, who was playing his last game for the club, claimed his final wicket as Earl picked out Marcus Hill.

Netherfield closed on 177-6 with Joe Atkinson unbeaten on 13 as Williamson went for eight after being stumped by Richard Herron as Chris Miller finished with figures of 5-83.

Kendal's reply got off to a bad start as Mark Clarkson trapped Paul Dodds LBW for 2 in the fourth over, with Clarkson getting his second in the 10th over when Nightingale was caught by Potter for 12.

The wickets continued to fall, as Ryan Wilson despatched of Bariwala, whose big drive for six was taken by Potter, before he then caught Hawken for two.

With Kendal struggling on 28-4, Hyland and Richard Herron offered some resistance to guide the hosts to 56-4.

However Kendal's hopes suffered a further blow when Hyland was bowled by Williamson in the 28th over for 26.

Netherfield then began to work through Kendal as Lewis Richardson picked out Brown before Matthew Clinton claimed two quick wickets with Joseph Dodds and Herron both going.

Kendal's misery was completed as Klein trapped Miller LBW and with Oliver Field unable to bat due to injury, Kendal were all out for 91 in just over 40 overs.

Mark Clarkson was awarded the David Wheatman Trophy for his man of the match performance.
