Kendal Town 5 - 2 Dunston UTS

A SECOND half brace by Jordan Connerton helped Kendal into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup in a high-scoring encounter against Dunston UTS at Parkside Road, reports Richard Edmondson.

Kendal, who were looking to respond following on their disappointing midweek setback to Clitheroe, opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Sam Bailey fired the ball low from distance as the ball squirmed past Liam Connell in the Dunston goal.

Dunston began to put Kendal under pressure, and despite Town clearing their free kick the visitors were level five minutes later when Dan Smith capitalised on a poor clearance to fire ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Dunston almost took the lead on 38 minutes when Smith saw his close range effort well saved by Rick Whiteside in the Kendal goal.

However, despite being on the back foot, it was Town who went 2-1 up just before the break when a fine through ball by Bailey was picked up by Craig Carney who continued his early season goalscoring form to finish from close range.

In the second half, Dunston drew level on 51 minutes when Matthew Riggs slotted the ball home after outpacing the Town defence.

However as the half wore on Kendal were the fitter of the two sides and their dominance in the end proved too much for Dunston as Connerton picked up a Danny Wilkins pass, out muscled the visiting defence and powered the ball home.

Kendal from that point on were in control as Connerton fired wide after being put through by Carney, before a cross in from the right by the striker was tapped home by Wilkins to give Kendal a two goal lead.

Connerton made the game safe on 76 minutes when he buried the ball home from close range after getting on the end of another Wilkins pass.
