A TEENAGE boxer from Kendal has become the North West 65kg Junior Champion.

On Saturday in Manchester 15-year-old Luke Gudgeon, who boxes for Skerton Boxing Club of Lancaster, won the title at his very first attempt and now moves on to represent the club in the national championships.

The next round of the national championships is the North West versus the Midlands.

Skerton, a former Kendal ABC boxer, made the move to Skerton Boxing Club to further his career and it has paid off in his first season for the club.

"He has a lot of potential and is improving all the time and the club are excited for his future," said Paul Fielding, from the boxing club.

"Although only still a novice in boxing terms he is sure to have a long and successful career if he keeps at it.

"He travels through to the Lancaster gym three times a week to train and is very committed to his boxing."

Anybody interested in following in Luke's footsteps can contact the club on 077666 55401.
