THE Lakeland Climbing Centre, at Kendal, is preparing itself for the return of the extremely successful Marmot Masters Bouldering competition.

The competition is a series of fun, social evening climbing competitions in collaboration with sponsors Marmot outdoor clothing.

The event is in its third year and has been a huge success over previous years exceeding all expectations, with entrants growing year on year, with over 80 climbers from all over the North West taking part last year.

The competition is accessible to all ages and climbing abilities from 12-years-old to adults, with competitors separated into categories.

The competition consists of three rounds with Round One starting on October 2, Round Two on November 20 and Round Three and the final on February 5.

Climbers will tackle 20 set bouldering problems of increasing difficulty, a speed route and a competition style route on the circuit board.

Famous mystery route setters have been secured and the difficulties of the routes range from beginner through to problems that would test the very best climbers in the country.

Head route setter Simon Bennett said: "Our Marmot Masters Competition has picked up fantastic momentum in our region as the bouldering competition to enter and win.

"The competition is about having a go, having fun and meeting new people, with our team being on hand with friendly and supportive help and advice. I can guarantee a warm welcome will await all competitors and the atmosphere on the comp evenings are electric with our guest DJ playing tunes in the Marmot Loft all night to get everyone psyched up."

Bouldering consists of short climbs, at low level, above the safety of a crash mat.

The Lakeland Climbing Centre would like to thank their sponsors Marmot for helping us create these events.
