KENDAL Swimming Club gave their swimmers the opportunity to compete for qualifying times in their home pool by staging an Open Gala

Almost 60 of the club’s squad took part and enjoyed tremendous success winning a total of 127 medals, 48 of which were gold, in a field which attracted a high entry from clubs both inside and outside Cumbria.

One of the club’s leading swimmers, Scott Womack, was in outstanding form and came away with a total of five gold and three silver medals.

His finest performances came from the 100 and 200 Individual Medleys where his all round skills saw him pull off wins with a fair degree of ease.

More power and skill brought him more success a 50 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke.

Emily Reay, Elliot Woodburn and Ella Mounsey all came away with five gold medals in their pockets.

Reay’s 50 Butterfly win especially was a joy to watch.

Taking them out from the start she dictated the pace over the first length and out of her turn she just moved up a gear and simply burned off the opposition with her power and technique to take a memorable win.

Woodburn was outstanding in most of his swims winning golds comfortably especially 100 Individual Medley and 50 Butterfly.

However 50 Breaststroke really tested him and he displayed some magical form to hold off the challenges of his opponents.

Mounsey’s clearest wins came from 100 Backstroke and 100 Individual Medley.

However in 100 Backstroke and Freestyle she had to use all her skill and talent to hold off the challenges of clubmate Alex Agliolo and Barrow’s Anya Sharp.

But it was the club’s up and coming youngsters who really caught the eye as nine-year-olds Lucie Bulman, Elodie Malcolm, Keira Nelson and Adam Stansfield came up with gold winning performances.

Bulman was outstanding with four wins and her 100 Individual Medley brought out all her talent and superb skill.

Nelson and Stansfield showed their great sprinting prowess at 50 Backstroke whilst Malcolm produced plenty of staying power in the 100 Freestyle. Multi-gold wins also came from Lucy Sargeant, Alex Tallon, Louie Tideswell and Amy Reay.

Completing the list of Gold medal winners were Ollie Sargeant, Jake Bryant, Josie Johnson, Lewis Airey, Sophie Gibson, Jacob Klijn and Jake Edwards.
