ULVERSTON’S swimmers made the trip to Kendal to compete in the local club’s Mint Gala - and the outing proved to highly successful.

Ten of them won a grand total of fifty medals between them, thirty of which were gold.

The Cush brothers were in brilliant form and proved untouchable with a full house of nine golds as Patrick took five and Niall four.

As Breaststroke specialists they won these events with a fair degree of ease and in the all round Individual Medleys their skill saw them both dominate their races.

However at Backstroke and Freestyle they had to work particularly hard to hold off their challengers and take gold.

Another family affair involved the Sharp sisters making their mark on the meet.

Indya, in particular, was in dazzling form coming away with six gold and a bronze.

Her 50 Breaststroke saw her come through for a stunning victory and in the 100 Breaststroke and 50 Backstroke she battled it out stroke for stroke with club mate Shannon Parker and in the pressure zone made a supreme effort to take both events.

Anya, whilst not as successful as her sister, nevertheless enjoyed taking three gold and three silver from her events.

At 50 and 100 Breaststroke she got great starts and out of transition set the pace and got better and better and never looked likely to lose.

Her 50 Butterfly saw her set the pace again then moved up a gear to win.

Joshua Turner was another multi medal winner with a clutch of five gold and a silver.

His all round ability took him to comfortable wins at 100 and 200 Individual Medley and at 100 Backstroke pulled clear from his start and stormed away to triumph over his rivals.

He then took the 50 and 100 Butterfly tiles in style.

Georgina Milburn, 14, struck gold in all four of her events. Her sprinting prowess gave her victory at 50 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle, whilst her skill and technique brought fine wins at 100 Breaststroke and 100 Individual Medley.

More gold went to Shannon Parker who had clear distance wins at 100 Butterfly and 200 Individual Medley then produced a powerful piece of sprinting to take the 50 Freestyle.

Other fine swims brought her silver from 50 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke.

Anna Morrison, 12, stormed to a fantastic win at 100 Freestyle and went on to collect silver at 50 Freestyle and Bronze for 100 Butterfly.

Youngsters Maisie Allonby and Adam Sykes just missed out on gold but got in amongst the minor medals.
