Eight teams from Lakeland, Penrith, Duddon and Copeland Canoe Clubs took part in a polo tournament at Kendal Leisure Centre.
The Novice/Girls League began with a highly exciting game between Penrith Novices and Lakeland, which saw Penrith emerge victorious with a 5-4 win.
There were goals from Penrith's Jonathan and Nick, and Joe, Alex, Steph and Tim from Lakeland.
Another close game followed with a 2-2 draw between Penrith Girls and Duddon.
Next, Penrith Girls beat Penrith Novices 3-1 before Duddon beat Penrith Novices 4-1 and then Lakeland 3-2. Alex and Nicky were Lakeland’s scorers.
The final game of the league was another nail-biter, with Lakeland racing to a 3-0 lead at half-time, and just hanging on 4-3 by the end.
Scorers were Jemma and hat-trick Nicky from Lakeland, Katie and Caitlin from Penrith, with several great saves by Jemma in the Lakeland goal.
Overall, the unbeaten Duddon won the league, with Penrith girls second, Lakeland third and Penrith Novices fourth.
The Open League featured more experienced players from Lakeland, Penrith and Copeland, with teams boosted by fast-improving youngsters, such as Steph, Nicky, Jemma and Alex from Lakeland, and Katie from Penrith, some of whom train at GB level now.
Lakeland Old Boys emerged triumphant, with Penrith second, Copeland third and Lakeland A fourth.
Canoe polo is an internationally-recognised five-a-side game, and Lakeland Canoe Club practise at Kendal Leisure Centre on Sunday nights, with a focus on general paddling skills on the first Sunday of every month.
