IT was a successful weekend for Kendal Ladies Hockey Club as they collected maximum points from a double header of home games to see them close in at the top of the table.

On Saturday Nicola Conway scored a hat trick as Kendal sauntered past Bowden in a 5-0 win.

Kendal opened the scoring after just two minutes when Nicola Martindale prodded home from a penalty corner.

Conway then made it 2-0 on 17 minutes, before scoring her second on 24 minutes, whilst Fiona Crackles put Kendal 4-0 up at half time with a well taken finish.

In the second half, Kendal weren’t as impressive, however they were always in control with Conway completing her hat trick in the 45th minute.

On Sunday, a commanding first half performance saw Kendal run out 4-2 winners over Didsbury.

Kendal skipper Vicky Jones opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the 13th minute, before Conway, Martindale and Crackles put Kendal into a commanding 4-0 half time lead.

Kendal weren’t as effective in the second half, as Didsbury pulled two goals back through Janet Belk and Nicky Hill.

However Kendal eased home collecting six points from the two games played.

Kendal's next game is on Saturday when they travel to play University of Durhams Second Team.

Jones said: “It was a great weekend although the team are still striving for better. In both games we were up 4-0 at half time and then seemingly we just eased up somehow and didn't make the most of the second halves. It was a shame really but nevertheless we are still satisfied with the six points."

Kendal Ladies second team game at Kirkby Stephen was called off due to a waterlogged playing surface, whilst Kendal's third team lost 3-2 at Casterton in the Netherwood League.
