ULVERSTON swimmers achieved success in both the individual and team events at the Cumbria County Championships at the North Lakes Leisure Centre at Kendal.

Club stalwart Alix Knagg came away with three Championship trophies, a silver medal and a bronze to her name. Both Tom Robinson and Nicola Capstick won Championships and also picked up silver medals, while Amy Richardson won bronze in two events in a successful event for the Ulverston Otters.

The lady's 100m backstroke was a close battle which ended with a 1-2-3 for the Otters. Shoulder to shoulder Knagg, Capstick and Richardson fought all the way. The result hung in the balance and only in a storming finish did Knagg emerge as Champion with Capstick taking Silver and Richardson Bronze.

Knagg again showed her power and talent in the lady's 100m breaststroke, driving to the finish for a magnificent win. She then went on to win Silver at 100m individual medley and Bronze for 200m butterfly.

Capstick’s effort at 100m backstroke brought her a time of 1:04.78 and the Junior Ladies Championship trophy to go with her 50m backstroke trophy.

Outstanding swims by Tom Robinson saw him take the Junior Men's 100m butterfly as well as a silver in the 200m butterfly.

Amy Richardson also fought her way to the final of the 50m freestyle where she too added a bronze.

In the Team Championships the Ladies 200m freestyle relay combination of Capstick, Knagg, Richardson and Rhiannon Ellis were supreme. Capstick led them out and she put them on the front and handed over to Ellis who maintained their advantage. Despite powerful challenges from the Barrow and Cockermouth swimmers, Richardson was equal to the task and held the lead with Knagg bringing them home. The Junior Ladies team also gave an impressive performance with Capstick being joined by Georgina Milburn, Starr Huntington and Shannon Parker to take the Bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.
