TENNIS ace James Griffin served his way to glory and took the u12 and u14 titles at the Northumberland Open Grand Prix over the Easter Holidays.

The 12-year-old Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School pupil played a staggering 30 matches in Manchester and Newcastle - including five in one day.

The end result of his effort was a third place position in the Under 14 North of England Championships held in Manchester which warmed him up nicely for the Northumberland Open Grand Prix, where he played the best tennis of his life to win the titles.

Former national coach and professional player David Shaw, who coaches Griffin, described his performance in the u12 finals as `simply outstanding’.

Griffin is now ranked number 11 in Great Britain at u12 level and number five in Britain for boys born in 2004, out of over 5,000.
