AROUND 1,400 runners from all over the UK took part in the tenth Hawkshead Lakeland Trail run at the weekend.
The event was hampered by bad weather leading up to the day, meaning that an emergency park and ride system had to be put in place. On the day though, the sun came out and many more runners and spectators were able to park in the village than was expected.
Out on the course the Boom Dang band of Drummers cheered the runners up and over the Coffin Trail of Claife Heights.
Winner of the main race of the day was Ilkley's Tom Adams who clocked 59-35 while Rachel Kane, from Carlisle, won the ladies' race in 1-18-33. More than 100 children aged three to 13 took part in a lively mini race around the recreation field.
The next Lakeland Trails event takes place in the village of Staveley on the May 7. More information on www.lakelandtrails.org.
