Kirkby Lonsdale Netball first team - Kirkby Foxes - completed their unbeaten season record by winning the Lancaster and Morecambe Netball league on Monday evening.
The club has three teams, who all played well this year and have gone from strength to strength over the season.
The best player of the season for each team (as voted by the opposition) were: Kirkby Foxes - Jenny Ward; Kirkby Devils - Mary Atkinson; and Kirkby Dragons - Melissa Booth.
There are 21 teams in the competitive Lancaster and Morecambe netball league, which has been in existence since 1984. Kirkby Lonsdale Netball Club has played in the league for many years.
This year it had three teams across the two divisions of the league. Many players start at the club's junior section, then join the third team and adult training as they develop move through to the main teams.
Many players also attend join the club for the social and fitness aspect, having decided that they do not want to play competitive netball at present.
Kirkby Foxes were unbeaten across their ten matches this season since September.
Games are played outdoors under floodlights at Lancaster and Morecambe College or at Morecambe High School, and at the start of the season it was difficult to get any consistency in play for all teams in the league as so many games were cancelled due to excessively wet weather. The organisers worked hard to fit all the games in, allowing the season to end at the end of April rather than March as planned.
Foxes soon began to show their quality, however, and conceded only 92 goals across the whole season and scored 351.
The squad is made up of nine players, all of whom played a part in the success. They are Kim Bradshaw (Captain) Jayne Lawson, Jenny Ward, Frances Smith, Bethan Stoll, April Boyd, Rachel Diss, Sarah Blacow and Janet Winstanley. The coach is Lesley Benson (new this season) and the umpires are Carol Catnach and Lesley Bailey.
Kirkby Devils and Kirkby Dragons also both had an excellent season and are well placed to move further up the league tables next year.
The full results for the league have not been published yet as some games remain but the positional places are as follows:
Division 1 winners
Kirkby Foxes
Division 1 runners up
Lancastrians 1
Division 2 winners
EDF Tigers
Division 2 runners up
Missiles 2
