Shireshead continued their perfect start to the Westmorland League season with a two-wicket win against Heysham at Clifton Park.

Upon winning the toss Heysham decided to bat first, but immediately they found it hard going as both James Rafferty (4 for 37) and Dave Jack (2 for 50) bowled with great control. A Hill (25) battled hard but wickets fell at regular intervals to leave the score at 64 for 6 from 33 overs. S McClements (41) took the battle back to the bowlers and added 48 for the 7th wicket with S Dixon (20) but Shireshead were the more satisfied of the two sides at tea as Heysham had to settle for 128 for 9.

Shireshead slipped to 14 for 2 in reply, but Tom Jacques (36) and Peter Wilson (17) seemed to have done all the hard work as they took the score to 60 for 2. However regular wickets kept Heysham interested and Shireshead were indebted to the cool head of Simon Gould (43 not out) who guided his team home with a string of sublime boundaries.

Warton are now second in the table after they travelled to Milnthorpe and won by four wickets.

An unbeaten 43 from Steve Bowman contributed to a score of 123 for 9 for Milnthorpe but they struggled to post a big score with Warton's Graeme Crowther doing the damage with the ball with figures of five for 36.

Tom Barnfield's made great inroads during the Warton reply with an unbeaten 63, and they completed the chase with four wickets to spare despite impressive figures of 4 for 23 by Milnthorpe bowler Bobby Baldwin.

Elsewhere, Windermere's 104 all out was well short of Arnside's 227 for nine, Carnforth beat Ambleside by four wickets, and Westgate beat Silverdale by 48 runs.
