KIRKBY Lonsdale RUFC have been on a training tour to Poland in an effort to prepare for their second shot at promotion.

On Saturday, Kirkby welcome North One East runners-up Morley at Underley Park in the play off to see if they can join Kendal next season in National League Three.

Having missed out in the winner-takes-all derby at Mint Bridge at the end of April, Kirkby have been working hard to put the disappointment behind them.

Part of the recovery included the squad travelling to Krakow where they took on Polish outfit Juvenia and came out with a 34-17 win.

Club captain Ben Walker believes the hard word that has gone in since the 24-3 loss to Kendal has helped the players put the devastation behind them.

"We have completely forgotten about the Kendal game now, we have come back from tour and we are ready for business," said Walker.

"That's all gone and forgotten, it's not playing on our minds anymore, we're just looking forward to getting back on the pitch."

Walker also added that the Polish experience against an tough Polish side will stand Kirkby in good stead ahead of the Morley game.

"They had enormous men that ran straight at you and they tackled really hard. But they were really welcoming, it was a really good tour."

And despite admitting that the Underley Park team are lucky to have a second bite at promotion, Walker insists it will mean everything to the squad.

He said: "We have heartache last year with the Sheffield play off but we have been lucky enough to have a second chance at glory this year.

"To sit in the changing rooms with a win on Saturday would absolutely everything to the lads.

It's a big game of rugby for Kirkby Lonsdale on Saturday – we don't want to be in this league we want to have a go at the league above."

Kirkby Lonsdale take on Morley at Underley Park on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
