An inter-club gala held at Kendal Leisure Centre brought teams of junior swimmers together from Ulverston, Kendal, Lancaster and Barrow.

Barrow’s swimmers quickly established their strength with Ulverston and Kendal getting into the mix and making serious challenges for supremacy. The Otters made an average start with minor results in the early races, but then produced a series of individual winners to put them back on track.

The u9s Mixed Butterfly Relay saw Isaac Tizard, Imogen Stoker, Jamie Parker and Orianne Sharp combine and produce a brilliant win. Then speed merchants Felicity Boyle (Breaststroke), Stoker (Breaststroke), Amelia Mardel (Freestyle) and Kirsten Pearson-Gee (Backstroke) all triumphed in the sprints.

Back to the relays and the u9 Medley provided excitement with Georgie Coward (Backstroke) taking it on followed by Sharp (Breaststroke), and Stoker (Butterfly) who kept up the pressure, handing over to anchor Isabella Eley who stormed to a marvellous win.

The u11 Girls Butterfly had Abi Miller, Erica Nicklin, Rebecca O’Donovan join Mardel to pull off another superb win. Boyle pulled off a double with an immaculate 50 Butterfly win to take them through the first half and into second place behind Barrow with Kendal close third. The Otters struggled to hold on to their place in this period but fine Individual swims by Stoker (Freestyle) and Sharp (Butterfly) brought them much needed maximum points. These two were then joined by Nathan Caine and Jamie Parker to take on the Backstroke Relay. Sharp got away well and handing over to Caine he kept them in the mix. Next came Parker who put them on the road to success and Stoker produced a swim from the gods to give them a well earned victory. Not to be outdone the u11 boys got in on the act with Adam Jones, Oliver Aveyard, Ashton Stoker and Louis Jones producing magnificent efforts to take second place in the Backstroke relay. For the premiere event the cannon, Maisie Scales led out, followed by Carrick Crawford, Stoker, Tizard, Boyle, Ethan Alpress, Mardel and brought home by Louis Jones to a thunderous finish. Despite all these effort the Otters found themselves squeezed out into 3rd place by overall winners Barrow and Kendal.
