Kendal Town picked up a much-needed win after they defeated Scarborough Athletic 2-1 at a rain-soaked Pye Motors Stadium.

Matthew Dudley's goal in the 87th minute won it for the Mintcakes after Eddie Birch’s header minute had cancelled out Ollie Wood's opener for David Foster's team.

On a wet and miserable afternoon, both sides had made a quiet start to the game, with Danny Forbes' side-footed effort the only real opportunity in the opening exchanges.

However as the half wore on Scarborough began to get into the contest as Paul Beesley wasted two good opportunities.

Scarborough’s Jameel Ible also saw his header go over while he failed to get onto a through ball into the box.

Kendal began to create opportunities of their own after a quick counter attack saw Charlie Bailey with a good chance to score, however the former Morecambe player slotted the ball wide of the left hand post.

Dudley created the best chance of the half after his powerful effort on goal was pushed away for a corner by Jordan Porter in the Scarborough goal.

Minutes before half time Scarborough's Ellis Humble saw his header go over the bar, as both sides went in all square at the break.

Kendal made a good start to the second half as Scarborough keeper Jordan Porter was forced to deny Dudley while Wood's header was also pushed away by the visiting keeper.

However Kendal opened the scoring on the 73rd minute after Wood beat the offside trap before the talisman slotted the ball home past the keeper.

Scarborough fought back in the 83rd minute when a good save by Will Kitchen fell to Birch who headed home.

The visitors almost went head two minutes later only for Birch's effort to be cleared off the line by the Kendal backline.

With time running out Kendal grabbed the winner when Dudley finished from close range. Kendal closed the last few moments out after they saw off a free kick and a corner, as the mintcakes celebrated a win that moved them up to ninth in the table.
