KENDAL Town claimed a share of the spoils after they drew 2-2 with Glossop North End at The Pye Motors Stadium on Saturday.

The Mintcakes had done well to take a point after they fell behind on two separate occasions. Olli Wood's 58th minute strike saw Kendal come back for a second time, after newly-appointed skipper Stu McDonald had earlier drawn Town level after conceding in the first half.

Glossop started the game on the front foot while Kendal struggled in the early exchanges, Jamie Rainford's attempt on goal forced Will kitchen into action while a variety of probing attacks were cleared by the Kendal back line.

The visitors went 1-0 up after 12 minutes when Rainford's powerful shot rebounded off Kitchen in the Kendal goal, before Benjamin Richardson capitalised to slot home the loose ball from close range.

Glossop almost extended their advantage five minutes later when Michael Norton toe poked the ball wide of the right-hand post after a long ball was not cleared by the Town defence while Max Leonard saw his shot on goal parried away by eventual man-of-the-match Kitchen.

Once Kendal had soaked up the pressure they began to get back into the game, with Sam Bailey's effort from just outside the box going over the cross bar.

The Mintcakes equalised on the half-hour when Sam Bailey's corner from the left fell to the feet of McDonald who powered the ball into the back of the net.

The parity was short lived, however, as Glossop regained the lead three minutes later when Max Leonard worked his way through the Mintcakes' defence before he scored from close range.

Kendal started the second half well as North End's Sam Barnes put in a last ditch challenge which broke up an attack, while quick passing and movement by David Foster's team kept Glossop on the back foot while their defence continued to clear the danger.

Town's good play was eventually rewarded in the 58th minute as Charlie Bowman rolled the ball across the penalty box to Wood who finished from close range. Bowman grateful to Sam Bailey who set the up the initial attack.

The game continued to open up with both sides creating chances – Glossop's Norton failed to connect to a through ball in the penalty box, while Wood forced Glossop 'keeper Matthew Cooper into action before Danny Forbes powered the ball over the bar from distance.

Glossop substitute Samuel Hare was also unfortunate not to score after his curled shot from distance just went over, while Barnes headed the ball over from a corner in from the right.

Kendal were also a constant threat, after they saw a variety of attacks cleared away by either last ditch challenges or solid defensive work.

However despite both teams' best efforts the game ended all square as Kendal remained fifth in the table ahead of Tuesday's visit of Clitheroe.
