Windermere 47-Furness 3

With most players now available WRUFC registered their first win of the 2016–17 campaign with seven tries and a bonus point victory in an excellent team performance by Windermere.

The first half was a close affair with both teams squandering opportunities to score. Furness did not use the wind at their backs to their advantage and this allowed Windermere to exert some late pressure in the half, with tries scored by Dawson and Hodgson. Penalties were then exchanged to give Windermere a half time lead of 15–3.

In the second half Furness exerted early pressure and Windermere were reduced to 13 men following two yellow cards in quick succession.

Windermere managed to defend their line for the 10 minute 'sin bin' period with 13 men. When back to full strength Windermere then dominated the final 25 minutes, scoring five more unanswered tries from Sheasby, Dawson again, and Hardman.

The final try epitomised Windermere’s ruthless streak with a quick tap penalty down the right from Harrison seeing Hodgson break clear. Realising he was struggling for pace, Hodgson then unloaded to veteran forward Ireland, who finished the remaining 20 metres, strongly in the corner.
