KENDAL Town bounced back from a midweek defeat to Clitheroe to beat Ossett Albion 4-2 in a six-goal thriller.

Oliver Wood scored a brace for the Mintcakes, while Danny Forbes and Sam Bailey were also on the score sheet for David Foster's team.

The game started at a high tempo as Kendal had the better of the opening exchanges, with both Sam Bailey and Adam Freeland causing problems for Albion defence.

Kendal continued to press as they forced numerous corners and free kicks that were seen off by the hosts.

The Mintcakes opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Wood headed the ball into the net after being allowed a free header in the box by the Ossett defence.

Kendal continued to dominate play, with Matthew Poole unable to capitalise on a through ball by Forbes, while Wood headed the ball over from a cross into the box.

Ossett's main attacking threats continued to be repelled by Kendal’s strong defence as the half time whistle blew.

The second half got off to a frenetic start in a good display of attacking football by both sides. Sam Bailey caused plenty of problems for the hosts with a number of penetrating runs through the defence, while Poole was flagged for offside after he got onto the end of a pin point delivery by Martin Grundy.

Ossett desperate for the equaliser began to force corners that Kendal cleared while Gibril Bojang saw his effort go over the cross bar.

The hosts continued to press while Bojang and Ben Walker were denied by Will Kitchen in the Kendal goal.

Kendal almost added a second just after the hour mark when Matthew Dudley's attempt on goal was cleared. However Ossett equalised three minutes later when Bojang scored past Kitchen, but Foster's side responded superbly and went 3-1 up when they scored two goals in two minutes.

Forbes led the charge with a blistering strike from 35 yards that flew into the top corner before Bailey slotted the ball home from close range after the former Bolton Wanderers player capitalised on a poor clearance by Ossett keeper Brett Souter.

Ossett pulled a goal back through Bojang with his second of the game, before the Mintcakes were indebted to Kitchen who made a good save to deny Walker.

But Kendal sealed the win in injury time as Wood converted a penalty, as his composed finish saw Kendal run out 4-2 winners.

Kendal travel to Burscough on Saturday in the FA Trophy, before they host Colwyn Bay on Saturday 15 October in the League.
