Jess Tait's hat trick eased Kendal Towns Ladies to a first win of the season as they picked up a 4-1 win over Academy Juniors at The Pye Motors Stadium.

The Mintcakes dominated against the bottom-placed side and deserved the win in what was Dan Ross’s first game in charge of the Team.

Kendal started the game well and were ahead after just three minutes when Tait's tame effort on goal was fumbled into the net by the visiting goalkeeper.

The Ladies continued to dominate and created a lot of chances, while playing excellent free-flowing football as Academy Juniors struggled.

Kendal made it 2-0 midway through the first half when Lauren Downham's long range effort on goal nestled into the back of the net

The Ladies should have put the game out of sight as chances from Tamar Benson, Charlotte Kendall, Tait, Joanne Thompson, Faye Armstrong and a well saved header by Sarah McCabe went begging.

Kendal continued to press in the second half while Academy Juniors struggled to get out of their own half, however the young Academy Juniors side pulled a goal back against the run of play after a weak strike on goal fell into the net.

The goal gave the Juniors a lift as they attempted to draw level, however Kendal's defence repelled any danger that the visitors had shown with any threat well cleared by the defense.

Kendal though made the game safe in the last fifteen minutes as Tait's long-range effort found the bottom corner of the net, while Tait completed her hat trick with a neat finish past the keeper as Kendal cruised into a 4-1 lead.

Benson almost added a fifth only to fire over after being put through by man-of-the-match Tait, while Academy Juniors battled to the end.

Kendal though finished the game well with Tait leading the charge as the Ladies celebrated a good win.

After the match Kendal Town Ladies manager Dan Ross spoke of his delight of the team and Tait's performance.

“Jess was outstanding and did exactly what I asked her to do, she made plenty of driving runs through the defence. She was aggressive and was lethal in front of goal with her powerful right foot.

"I thought the team played really well, they passed and moved the ball while in defence they pressed and closed down the opposition quickly, forcing them into errors. The Ladies retained the ball really well, and played with a great Team spirit.

"Considering the team haven’t played for a while they were fantastic against a spirited Academy Junior side.”
