Kendal Town 3 vs 1 Prescot Cables

KENDAL Town moved to within one point of the summit of the table in a convincing 3-1 victory - their third straight league win - over Prescot Cables 3-1 at The Pye Motors Stadium on Saturday.

Rob Bowman opened the scoring half way through the first half before adding a second in the opening stages of the second 45.

Josh Wardle's header extended the Mintcakes' lead before Prescot's Lloyd Dean scored a consolation.

Kendal were comfortable throughout and started the game well as they starved the visitors of possession.

They made the breakthrough in the 25th minute after a corner from the left was headed home from close range by Rob Bowman.

The Black and Whites continued to press and forced Prescot onto the back foot as Charlie Bailey saw his header go over the bar, before Danny Forbes' tame effort on goal fell into the hands of the visiting keeper.

Prescot’s only real opportunity of a scrappy half came through Phil Bannister who prodded the ball wide of the right hand post just before half time.

Kendal doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half after Bowman placed the ball into the bottom corner of the net from close range.

Forbes almost made it 3-0 four minutes later, only for his powerful strike on goal to be blocked by the Cables defence while Sam Bailey put his effort wide of the right hand post from a corner.

Prescot nearly pulled a goal back after James Edgar found himself clean through on goal, however the number 11 fired a tame shot into the hands of Will Kitchen.

Kendal sealed victory on the 65th minute after a corner in from the left hand side was headed home by Wardle.

Prescot scored a consolation through Lloyd Dean but Kendal defended well and cleared away any danger.

Prescot had to play the last few minutes with ten men after Bannister was sent off for a bad challenge.

The Mintcakes travel to Nantwich on Saturday in the next qualifying round of the FA Trophy before they host Clitheroe in the Lancashire Cup on Tuesday night.
