BARDSEA trainer Roger Fisher of Great Head House stables has a live contender in BECKERMET for Royal Ascot's Wokingham Handicap this afternoon (Saturday).
On its day, the Second Empire gelding is a classy sprinter, not far off pattern company, but he has slid down the ratings and gets in this hot six-furlong sprint on a nice mark.
He was runner-up in this race in 2005 when the meeting was held at York, and his astute trainer has been lining up a tilt at this big one.
It's a tough ask with improving Zidane, Grantley Adams and Ripples Maid all improvers.
But at 20s Beckermet coould into an each-way spot.
Other fancies are Brian Smart's MAZE in the 2.30, who is closely matched with Feared in Flight on up-to-date Ascot form of this week, and AMADEUS WOLF, who won first time out at York and can beat Miss Andretti, who is aiming for a Royal meeting double but is probably better over the minimum trip.
