Kendal battled back from a goal behind to defeat City of York Ladies 9-2 at The Cinder Ovens playing surface in Kendal.

The game started at a quick pace with Kendal pushing for the first goal, however it was the away side that opened the scoring after a York forward latched onto a through ball on a counter attack and slotted the ball past the helpless Kendal goalkeeper.

It didn’t take long for Kendal to get themselves back into the game, after a short corner strike from Nicola Conway found Rhiannon Byrne-Bowles at the far post who deflected the shot home from close range.

Kendal pushed on and were soon 2-1 in front as Kate Froggatt finished well from close range.

The Black and Whites went further ahead three minutes later when Nicola Conway struck the ball into the top corner of the net after the captain latched onto a loose ball in the D.

York battled back and scored from the counter attack, however Kendal tightened their defence up as the visitors found it harder to get a shot off on goal.

From that point on Kendal pulled further clear after a combination of passes between Emma Woodburn, Vicky Whalley-Jones and Conway found Froggatt who slotted the ball home for her second of the afternoon.

Kendal added another goal ten minutes into the second half as Whalley-Jones weaved her way through the visitors' defence to finish.

The rest of the game saw many chances fall to the home side, before Froggatt claimed her third as Kendal cruised into a 6-2 lead.

She had her fourth soon after as she volleyed the ball into the back of the net, while Libby Thwaites made it 8-2 moments later.

Ebony Townley rounded off the scoring as Kendal sailed to a 9-2 win.

Kendal travel to Fylde at the weekend, for what will be their last game before the Christmas break.
