SECOND half substitute Robert Bowman rescued a point for Kendal Town as the Mintcakes battled to a 1-1 draw with Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday night.

Bowman’s 82nd minute effort cancelled out Elliott Rokka's opener after just five minutes for the visitors, who also saw Frank Hindle sent off late into the second half.

Kendal went into the game on the back of a solid 0-0 draw at Clitheroe on Saturday, while Radcliffe were keen to bounce back from a poor run of recent results.

However the visitors started the better of the two sides and were in front after 5 minutes when Jack Hindle's clinical pass across the box fell to the feet of Rokka who drilled the ball into the back of the net.

The visitors continued to create opportunities through Hindle whose powerful drive on goal was well saved by Will Kitchen, before a speculative effort from 25 yards by Christopher Hill sailed over the cross bar.

Kendal who struggled for large periods of the first half were restricted to half chances with Matt Dudley’s powerful drive blocked by the Radcliffe defence.

However as the first half progressed Kendal started to put some passages of play together, while Matt Poole had a goal ruled out for offside, after a neat exchange of passing saw him through on goal.

At the start of the second half Kendal applied some sustained pressure on the visitors as they began to pass the ball a lot quicker.

The Mintcakes bombarded the visitors with a sequence of corners and free kicks, while Dudley blazed the ball over from close range.

Kendal desperate for the equaliser brought on Morecambe loanee Steven Yawson whose pace began to cause problems for the Radcliffe backline, before a free kick by Ben Thomas just sailed wide of the left hand post.

Radcliffe who for large periods defended well always looked dangerous on the counter attack with Kitchen forcing away a Lassana Nalatche effort after Kendal were caught on the break.

However Kendal equalised inside the last 10 minutes when Bowman prodded the ball home from close range as the visitors left him unmarked in the box.

Radcliffe were under further pressure when Hindle was shown a red card for a foul on one of the Kendal players, while Poole toe poked the ball wide for David Foster's team late on.

With time running out, Yawson saw his late effort on goal cleared off the line while Radcliffe almost caught Kendal on the break, before Ryan Eiselt fired the ball straight at Kitchen.

Kendal though were relieved to gain a point in front a low crowd of 93. They host Droylsden on Saturday before an away game to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night.
