Kendal Town 1 v 2 Ossett Albion

Evo-Stik First Division North

A LATE Robert Bordman strike saw relegation-threatened Ossett Albion head back to Yorkshire with all three points as Kendal Town were left to rue a glut of missed chances.

The Mintcakes opened the scoring just before the break when Matthew Dudley powered the ball home from close range.

However Ossett capitalised on a lacklustre second half by the black and whites and emerged victors thanks to goals from James Eyles and Bordman.

Kendal, keen to bounce back from the midweek defeat at Bamber Bridge, made a positive start as they pressed the visitors high up field.

The Mintcakes pressure was relentless especially however they were unable to find the net as Morecambe loanee Steven Yawson fired wide on the tenth minute while Danny Forbes blazed the ball over the bar from distance.

Kendal continued to press as Yawson forced a good save out of Ossett shot-stopper Brett Souter after going clean through on goal.

Despite dominating Kendal were indebted to Will Kitchen who pulled off a point blank save to deny Ossett's Nathan Woodward, who was left with time and space in the box to turn before seeing his shot well stopped by the former Morecambe keeper.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 41st minute after Forbes did well to keep the ball alive in the box as he laid the pass off to Dudley to power home past the 'keeper.

Kendal almost doubled their lead five minutes into the second half after Ben Thomas fired the ball wide following a good pass into the box by Sam Bailey.

However Kendal allowed Ossett into the game. The visitors' long ball tactic continuously caught the Mintcakes' defence off guard as they struggled to clear the ball away on numerous occasions.

The equaliser arrived in the 64th minute when another long ball was picked up by James Eyles who powered his way through into the penalty box before the striker fired the ball into the net.

Kendal almost regained the lead five minutes later when Yawson forced Souter into an one-handed save before he headed the ball into the arms of the visiting keeper.

The Mintcakes went on to miss further opportunities through Dudley and Sam Bailey before Yawson was denied a shot on goal after a last ditch challenge by defender Isaac Baldwin.

However with just three minutes left on the clock Ossett went 2-1 in front after a deep cross in from the left by Bordman was misjudged by Kitchen as the ball flew into the right hand corner of the net.

With the game deep into injury time Ossett almost made it 3-1 only for Bordman to be denied by Josh Wardle who cleared the ball off the line.

Kendal travel to play Hyde United on Saturday as the Mintcakes look to bounce back.
